Emergency Assistance Intake Volunteer

Catholic Charities is looking for volunteers to work for our Emergency Assistance Program which helps Lake County families experiencing financial challenges. Services provided include emergency shelter, rent & utility assistance, transportation assistance, advocacy, and more. Volunteers are needed to complete phone intake assessments of potential clients. The callers are people needing help. The volunteer will listen to their story, ask questions to assess their situation, match them to services, and schedule appointments with caseworkers. Additionally, there is a wealth of information about other agencies and services that can be provided to callers who are not eligible or are in need of additional services. Emergency Assistance is the first step for many, and your help can be the relief that makes all the difference to a person in need. The phone calls are received at our Lake County offices in Waukegan between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Volunteers generally work one or two 3-hour shifts a week. Training occurs during the first 6 shifts, taking about 20 hours. Work is done within a pool of 4 phones with on-going support and updates. Come help us help your neighbors.
